Small, but mighty, Vancouver-based digital marketing agency, Tiny Planet Digital just wrapped up its Sustainable Growth Contest this past week. Socially and environmentally minded businesses and organizations across Canada were called to apply for the contest’s marketing services prize valued at a combined $5000. The competition amongst the shortlisted 20+ candidates was fierce, with applicants required to submit an application and attend a brief Marketing Secrets Revealed webinar. All candidates were working towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals (SDGs), 17 calls to action aimed at achieving peace and prosperity for people and the planet.
After a month of deliberation, The Starfish Canada and A Greener Future were selected as the top contenders for the prize on the basis of positive social and environmental impact made on their communities.
As a Canadian charity, The Starfish Canada, has been around since 2010 inspiring young Canadians to take leadership roles in their communities and to celebrate their peers contributing to the environment movement. As Director of Marketing & Communications at The Starfish Canada, Judy Lin expressed, “With the help of this award, we will make great strides in pursuing our mission to uplift the voices of youth within the environmental movement. We can ensure that our efforts in writing articles, running educational workshops, and showcasing young environmentalists result in maximum engagement. With every program we offer, we encourage our audience to take climate action by raising awareness about environmental issues and solutions. This generous award gives us the chance to spread our message to more youth across Canada.”
Ontario-based non-profit A Greener Future, is also environmentally focused, working with local communities to promote environmental preservation. Since 2014, A Greener Future has led the effort to reduce the impacts of litter on the environment, economy and people through their various community clean-ups. Rochelle Byrne, Founder and Executive Director of A Greener Future exclaimed, “As an environmental non-profit it’s so important for us to get our message out there in the world. The team at Tiny Planet Digital is invaluable to us as they will help us reach more people online in a way that we haven’t done before. We are so grateful to have been chosen for this award as it means our organization will build more momentum in the digital space and increase our environmental impact on the ground.”
