According to the MRC’s 2023 Global Payments and Fraud Report, merchants use an average of five fraud detection tools, and yet 62% are reporting an increase in first-party misuse disputes, or “friendly fraud”. However, additional friction in the purchase process creates a poor customer experience, while 41% of consumers who experience a false decline report they will never shop with a merchant again.
